The importance of, and the kind of, signs and signage used in a club or pub

While signage is largely used to enhance the visibility of a business, it also has the power to enhance the mood and feeling of an atmosphere - specifically when used in clubs and pubs.

As the most powerful and affordable means of communication available to a business, a sign or a signage system should speak to the client immediately.

For the most part the signage used for a club or pub should shout: “Come in and be entertained!”; but depending on the nature of the business, professional sign-makers create and design signage that conveys and complements the tone, ambience and identity of a particular establishment.

Lighting up the night

By their very nature, clubs and pubs are created to attract a night-time crowd and even when they are open for business during the day their interiors are usually dimmed down to create the illusion of night. For this reason illuminated signage is often favoured for dressing-up building fronts and enticing customers to enter.

To enhance the air of brightness, pub and club names and logos can be lit up with neon lighting and stylised with LED-lit channel lettering in radiant colours and in an eclectic range of fonts and sizes.

Club and pub interiors

For the interiors of clubs and pubs, signage can be designed for advertorial or product-based purposes. These signs may include a special type of beer or wine promotion or a sign to showcase a brand name or sponsor. The fact that pubs and clubs attract large numbers of people means that the signage system in these establishments must also be functional. Back-lit “Bar” signs or simple signage systems that direct patrons to restrooms and exits are essential. With the advent of digital technology, digital signage is available for pub owners who want to flash up-to-the-minute content and messages for the benefit of their clients.

Signs to inform

By regulation, pubs and clubs must display clearly visible signage that informs of liquor age restrictions, opening and closing times and/or specific dress code requirements.

Customised signage

To cater for the needs of clubs and pubs within in chain or franchise group, coordinated fittings and signage for standardised products and services can be customised to suit the client’s needs.
